Loft design

loft ceilingThe latest rage in condo development is loft design. I think a lot of developers are building these live work spaces because consumers want a lot of ceiling space. I think having a high ceiling opens up the livable space. It’s a great way to make the space appear larger then it really is. In the city, people can feel trapped and closed off. Because downtown cities are heavily populated, there isn’t a lot of space available for housing. In the city, you need to maximize your living space. You can do that by creating a visual openness with your ceiling.

I have a friend who recently purchased a condo with his new wife. They bought a loft condo. The ceiling is 15 ft high. The unit isn’t that big, but the space seems larger then it is because of the high ceiling. I was thinking about ways to use that extra ceiling space. I was thinking about creating some storage space. It’s visually appealing, but the high ceiling could be used to add more storage to your apartment or unit. It wouldn’t be that hard to create borders and shelves to the high parts of the wall. I think you could pick up a beginners kit at your local hardware store. Just an interesting thought with regards to loft design.
