This circular pattern shows Oli’s immaturity to commit. In the end Oli must commit to one woman if he wants to find true love. Throughout the film Oli does not have love. In a film about love, timelessness best captures that emotion. Therefore throughout the film Oli is without time. Although the fabula is going in a linear time with no flashbacks, the same scenes are seen over and over again. Oli is alone on the boat wearing the same clothes. These scenes capture Oli’s loneliness and therefore strengthen our interest in his quest for love.
The frequency of the love scenes with Oli and Ana get more and more graphic as the film goes on. This can also be said about the other random women he brings to his bed. In his scene with the woman with a mustache, we are riding a roller costar as we hear sexual sounds. The sex is all left to the imagination, however we see Oli and the mustache woman in bed together after they have sex. This scene looks almost identical to the opening scene.

Oli is looking for someone who can “fly”, someone who he can fall in love with. Time seems to stand still in his quest for love. He always seems to wear the same clothes. A long black trench coat and black pants. Also he has the same facial hair throughout the film. He is always shot the same way throughout the film. This is the same with the scene with the trap door located in his bed which is also shot the same way. The formal strategies of the scene is frequent as well as redundant. Future scenes with the trap door are shot the same as before. Oli is always on the left and a women is on the right. Also the passage of time is not made clear by abstracts such as watches, calendars, and time. Only the use of Oli’s friend, who gets jailed because of his controversial art work do we know time has passed. However, when dealing with Oli in his quest for love, time seems to stand still. His quest for love is going nowhere with the random woman he brings to his bed. Time as well is going nowhere because the film never cues us what time it is.

Both painters and filmmakers use warm and cool colors. Warms colors would be yellow, orange, red, red-purple, and white. Cool colors would be purple, blue, green, yellow, and black. Warm colors are associated with violence and excitement while cool colors are more tranquil and inactive. But why is this? When people think of red they think of blood or fire where as cool colors are more like nature with its grass, sky, and rivers. “Red and yellow are associated in human experience with fire and violent movement while blue and green are associated with water and tranquility”. In American Beauty Lester who is very sedated and dislocated is always seen wearing warm colors. As the film progresses his personality becomes more aggressive and he seems to have found excitement in his life again. In one scene he is wearing a red shirt and working out under a bright red light. However this doesn’t mean every person will feel this way about warm and cool colors. When people see a color in a painting or film, it triggers a memory or experience they had with that particular color. Therefore since people lived different lives, the color red will have different affects on them.

I have a friend who works for a branding company who makes a lot of money. I never even considered a job like this before. I do not even know what a branding company does exactly. I asked my friend a lot of questions regarding her job. She told me that all she does is create graphics for the potential company. She looks up research online about different types of industries. If a furniture company hires her company, she has to do a lot of research about other furniture companies. She then tries to find a good logo or branding image for the new company. She also helps out with finding a web site that can match the new company’s image. I was fascinated by the details of this type of operation. I actually want to start my own branding company. If you think about it, branding is a major business expense. If you can brand your product or company right, you can really set up a successful business. Think about all of the major corporations. All of those companies have major brands. All of them spend millions every year to make sure that their brand stay on top.

If you are an out of work designer, you shouldn’t worry to hard about money. There are a lot of jobs for freelance designers online. If you have talent, you can get a job easily. Even if you are not that talented, if you work hard, you can land a paying gig. The important thing to note is that the internet is a numbers game. Like most things in life, you just have to play the numbers. If you send out 100 emails, you should expect about 10 replies. Out of the ten replies, you should only expect about 1 or 2 paying gigs. So, if you want to increase your odds, you need to send out 1000 emails. I know that this sounds really hard and boring, but this is what you need to do in the beginning. You will not need to constantly do this. Once you start getting some regular clients, you will consistently get some work thrown your way. You should do some research about freelance posting sites. You should be able to find a lot of web sites that are dedicated to matching up designers with work providers. I am happy with my interior job, but if i ever get fired or laid off, i will go the freelance route. I will try to set up my own business after i save up some money.

I love how marketing and mass advertising is turning us into robots. If you don’t already know my tone, i am being sarcastic. I think that it is a damn crime what mass media is doing to our youth. It makes me sick to my stomach that all of our kids are being the same. They are constantly being brain washed into thinking that they are not good enough. They are being told that the only way to be really happy is via shopping. They are making our kids pay big money for useless things. If a kid doesn’t have the latest basketball shoe, he will be labeled a loser. If your son or daughter doesn’t have an ipod or cell phone, he or she will not have any friends. This type of brain washing should be left in the churches. We can not let this continue. The best way to get through to your kids is by talking to them. Teach them that the most important for them is individuality. Tell them that they are special and loved. Tell them that they do not need anything. Tell them that they are perfect just as they are.

I think that every artist struggles with their own creative voice. We receive all of this training and education and it sometimes can be hard to figure out what our true artistic vision is. Education is an important part of growth, but it isn’t the most important thing for an artist. As an artist, you have to learn to be your own person. You can not try to copy an artistic movement or trend. You can not try to figure out a formula and try to emulate it. We have to be unique and special. We have to think outside the box.
In this day and age, being unique is something that is hard to do. There are so many artists out there who try to be be unique for the sake of being unique. That type of pseudo art is not really art either. Your goals should be pure and creative. You should not try to fit your art or your vision into a box. Be selective with the critique that you receive, and be firm on your own unique beliefs. If you do that, you should already have more then enough training. Try not to learn everything there is about art. Be your own artist.

There is a series of books that are catered to designers all across the world. The next time you are at a book store, you should flip through the icons books. The star marked books have a lot of pictures regarding some of the best designs in the world. The books are all different. I have the interior design and architecture books. I also recently bought the web design books. I found the sites that are featured on that book to all be fascinating. I also started thinking about networking with authors. If you can get you web site or work to be included in a book, image how much good press will come out of that. Your web site will get a lot of new hits from people who respect and admire your work. If you designed an interior, you will get to meet other designers and networking will be like a gold mine. Try to work your way up on the latter of public relations. Try to market yourself and your work to other people. Self marketing is the name of the game. This does not mean that you just have to set up a web site. It means that you need to present your work to other people or places that will help you become more famous.

One thing that you have to understand about the web is that it is changing at lightening speed. If you saw something a few months ago, it might not still be there today. I think that this constant shift makes things pretty hectic and fast. It is exciting and stressful for most people. To stay up to date on all of the latest trends in design is also something that is fast. Trends tend to go out of style really fast. That is why you should really consider designs and material that is know to be ageless. If you look at fine european decor, you will notice a few things in common. First of all, you will notice that these buildings and interiors have a timeless feel to it. Try to think about that the next time you want to do a redesign on your home. This will end up saving you a lot of money and time. You will not need to redo every room in your house right before you want to sell it. If you did it the right way the first time around, you can just put the house up for sale. Think about that the next time you are thinking about a redesign.

I was reading the latest copy of rolling stone magazine the other day. I found a few web sites on there that i really liked. I think that regular paper mags are finding more ways to integrate the web into their print mags. Every body knows that the future is in the internet. We will still continue to go out and buy printed material, but most of the info will be found online. Email and internet video is changing the way we all communicate and do business. There will come a point in time where most of our daily transaction will be done over an internet connection. Even the tv is changing into an internet device. I think that in the near future, our tv screens will all have a computer attached to it. It is already happening with cable boxes and our game consoles. We are constantly online. The rolling stone mag featured a site that one of my friends created. It was really cool seeing that site. It inspired me to work more hard at web design.
